A New Space for Sanctuary

It’s been nearly a year since we moved out of our long-term studio and into the building our business currently occupies. I’ve loved our time in this beautiful contemporary structure, and have thrilled at creating sanctuary with a background of glass and concrete. But we knew from the start that this was a temporary home while we looked for a place where sanctuary could take root in a much more meaningful way.

Philip and I have discovered that the best way to show how sanctuary works is by letting people experience it firsthand. I’ve had a dream of finding a place that would allow us to do that win ways that would be impossible now.

I’ve dreamed of grounds graced with a labyrinth one could walk, of stretches of grass where one could read, contemplate or paint. I’ve dreamed of dinners served under fairy lights and stars. I’ve dreamed of a place where we could not only share what sanctuary is but also demonstrate it.

In my dreaming I started looking, and I’ve found a place that has the potential to be all of that, and possibly a lot more. And we are in the midst of moving our entire lives to this new property right now.

Uprooting and replanting our home and office at the same time is, as you can imagine, a lot of work. Boxes are everywhere. We are living out of suitcases. Every surface is crowded with items waiting to be carefully wrapped and hauled away. It’s so crazy that Harper, our English Springer Spaniel puppy, got lost amid the maze of boxes stacked high, and started barking for me to come find her. And while everything is in flux, we are focused on keeping our design business flowing—it is at the very heart of what we do.

There is much that remains to be done as this dream comes to fruition. There will be need to be renovation, some construction, and some demolition to bring this new vision of sanctuary into being. But the first thing is to get there, and we are on our way.

A new chapter in the story of sanctuary has begun, and I cannot wait to share the journey with you.

With love and gratitude,

Lisa
